I have been involved in online Buddhism education since 1999 while working in Nepal. This sample on Youtube is the smidgen of what we have accomplished at the OpenSource Buddhist Research Institute - Madison. Please visit opensourcebuddhism.org and see much much more!I received my BA in Buddhist Studies at Northwestern with Isshi Yamada, advisor, Sanskrit and Indian/Chinese et.al. Mahayana; BA/MA at University of Cambridge in Theology with Christopher Rowland (Biblical Studies and Liberation Theology - now at Oxford), the Master of Divinity (MDiv) from the University of Chicago studying with Father Dr. David Tracy by way of hermeneutical approaches to Buddhist Studies. I was ordained into the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and still consider myself a minister in that tradition. I was ordained with a for-acknowledged commitment to Buddhist thinking. What a liberal church!AFter a year's ministry in Ontario, I returned to Buddhism, receiving the PhD in Buddhist STudies at Wisconsin in 1997, the very last of a line of the ancien regime. I was grilled by Kiyota, Sopa and Buhnemann. There would never again be the classic combination.I have taught world religions at Edgewood (and still do), East/WEst Perspectives and Introduction to Philosophy at the Madison ARea Technical College, I taught the comparative study of religions at the Royal Tribhuvan University at Kathmandu, I taught Sanskrit at the University of Iowa, and filled in for three different years as Visiting PRof in Buddhist STudies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.I received the PhD in Buddhist STudies at the once famed University of Wisconsin-Madison's Buddhist STudies Program. I came to study with Geshe Sopa to hear the Tibetan side of the issues and contrast them with what I learned from Yamada. It has proven to be the wildest ride I have seen!
