Let's slap our faces, ok?http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/4228411.stmAntarctic's ice 'melting faster'Iceberg (AP)Guide to Climate ChangeHunting climate evidenceA team of UK researchers claims to have new evidence that global warming is melting the ice in Antarctica faster than had previously been thought.Scientists from the British Antarctic Survey (Bas) say the rise in sea levels around the world caused by the melting may have been under-estimated.It is thought that over 13,000 sq km of sea ice in the Antarctic Peninsula has been lost over the last 50 years. The findings were announced at a Climate Change Conference in Exeter.Rising sea levelProfessor Chris Rapley, director of (Bas), told the conference that Antarctica could become a "giant awakened", contributing heavily to rising sea levels.Melting in the Antarctic Peninsula removes sea ice that once held back the movement of glaciers. As a result, glaciers flow into the ocean up to six times faster than before. The other region in the continent affected by the changes is West Antarctica, where warmer sea water is thought to be eroding the ice from underneath. In 2001, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) predicted the average global sea level would rise by between 11cm (4.3in) and 77cm (30.3in) by 2100 - but forecast that Antarctic's contribution would be small.Ice chunksOver the past five years, studies have found that melting Antarctic ice caps contribute at least 15% to the current global sea level rise of 2mm (0.08in) a year.It is not known whether the melting is the result of a natural event or the result of global warming.Professor Rapley said that if this was natural variability, it might be expected to be taking place in only a handful of places. However, studies had shown that it was happening in all three major ice streams in West Antarctica, he added.Several major sections of Antarctic ice have broken off in the past decade. The Larsen A ice shelf, which measured 1,600 sq km, broke off in 1995. The 1,100 sq km Wilkins ice shelf fell off in 1998 and the 13,500 sq km Larsen B dropped away in 2002.

Mar 28, 2008 - This ice sheet break up will eventually rise sea level by over 0.15 mm, by melt-water volume. If this happens every year, that gives over 7 cm in 50 years, just from isolated ice shelves! Adding to that caps slowing cycles and glaciers retreating around the world, we are looking at up to 30 cm in 50 years minimum! With a maximum by factoring in acceleration of up to 90-120 cm... average around 65 cm. I hope you understand the implications!

Apr 1, 2008 - George Bush did it

Apr 13, 2008 - Ice already in the water does not make sea levels rise.Last Total Meltdown of the Earth was about 27 million ago at 20 degrees hotter then now. The North Pole was a swamp land full of tropical animals and Plants.More Recently, about 100,000 years ago the Earth was 8 degrees colder and all of Canada and 1/2 the U.S. was under ICe and the "Great Barrier Reef" was a above that age's "sea level" Forest.Being scared of +1/2 degree in a histroy of 900f infernal to 300 below zero Ice ball is silly

Apr 14, 2008 - you seem smart enough to do the calculation yourself... I did it, and those were my conclusions. I only took into account the ice that is above the water (minus a 5% density change). I don't know if you know that water peaks density at just under 4 degrees... that is why ice floats! Your speculated facts are ok, as long as you understand they are speculations, and they don't change our present condition. We should all start thinking and educating ourselves as scientists. Fear is for pussies.

Apr 14, 2008 - Have you ever seen polar ice?A lot of it is little more then compressed snow, while others is "Airy" like Strafoam which is why a 1 or 2 degree change in the circulating oceans around them can effect them so much.In the U.S. Colonial Days a major export was Chesapeake bay ice that was shipped to Europe, the Bahammas and even India with no problems as Ice melts at the same rate no matter the air tempature above freezing so blaming a "1.4 degree change in Air" on poles melting is junk science

chachalaca777 Says:

Apr 14, 2008 - The 5% is for compressed snow ice (glacier density)... who said 1.4 deg change? oh this video?... its only giving us a reason to have a chat lol! don't really have time to watch videos unless they are professional works of course... I still think we should expect 1 metre of sea rise by 2050 just to be safe, not scared, safe! I calculated that the Wilkins ice break up to raise world-wide sea level from .09mm to 1.5, yes depending on the density of which I am not familiar with but above water.

Apr 16, 2008 - The Ice Cap is NOT MELTING. The Ice Shelf has doubled almost TRIPLED in size. Hell don't believe me RESEARCH IT YOURSELF!!!!!! I use to believe it but I did the research myself. I have learned to STOP BELIEVING WHAT I HEAR ON TV! All the information you need is right at your finger tips. NOAA and NASA have confirmed this! If the ice cap has melted as much as they say oceans levels would be up almost a foot and it hasn't even risen by an 1/2 inch. FEAR:F--FALSEE--EVIDENCEA--APPEARINGR--REAL

May 9, 2008 - The only thing worse than the fact that somebody made this video, is that for some reason, I actually watched this video, and took time to comment on it. I give this video, the finger.

May 22, 2008 - Global warming is not caused by pollution, but rather a reaction between nibiru and the sun.

Jun 13, 2008 - I am less concerned about the ice melting than current air pollution. That is real and is effecting people in the form of asthma attacks and new asthmatics. The allergic people are the canaries in the coal mine. It won't bother the powers until a higher percentage start dropping.
