Jul 23, 2008 - Thanks for the complement. I had a hard time trying to find videos for the melody maker but there are a few out there. It really is a cool guitar and it sounds and feels great. I think a P-90 would sound really good as well but I am enjoying the stock pickups right now. P-90s do look cool though... and so do Bigsbys. Good luck.

Aug 14, 2008 - lol P-90 Dogear pickups are the best looking P-90's around.

Aug 14, 2008 - Yeah not sure why I put it that way of course tone is more important than the look but I still stand by what I said. P-90s and Bigsbys just look cool.

Aug 14, 2008 - i want a punk/hardcore kind of sound. i also play blues.how does this guitar go with that kind of distortion? (punk)
atkinson2 Says:
Aug 15, 2008 - I would say that this guitar would go well with the punk distortion sound but I am not sure about hardcore. It can do a nasty trebley distortion sound that is punkish or you can turn the tone knob down for smother tones. Certainly it is great for blues. I would also look into a LP Jr or Special if you have the cash but I was more than surprised by the tone and playablilty of the Melody Maker.

Aug 27, 2008 - i'm looking for a ner guitar. i was looking at this one but i want to be able to play some metal. Can anyone recommend a cheap guitar that i can do that with?

Aug 30, 2008 - The dual pickup is definately a guitar I'd like to own one day.

Aug 30, 2008 - If I was going to play metal I would look into Schecters. I had a C-1 Classic that was really nice but those are around $750 which I do not consider cheap. They make more inexpensive models in the 400 to 500 range like the C-1 FR or if you want something a bit more classic the PT_Standard.

Aug 30, 2008 - Do you have the single? It really is a nice guitar. I bought it w/o playing it from Musicians Friend and I couldnt believe how well it played and how great it sounds for such an inexpensive guitar. I since added a intonatable TonPros bridge but the intonation is close enough as it comes.

Sep 1, 2008 - How well does the guitar handle mid-gain punk, like Rancid? I'm thinking of picking one up for third wave ska type stuff.

Sep 1, 2008 - I owned a single pickuped melody maker for a little while, then passed it on to my nephew. He uses it in his 'garage' band. It is a very nice guitar, possibly the brightest tone you'll get for a gibson in this price range. I live in the Uk and dual pickup melody makers are hard to come by, but as I play a lot of blues this is definately the sort of thing im after. congrats on owning one! on musicians friend it tells me that the product has been discontinued.

Sep 5, 2008 - Hey - do you know how high to pickups should be on this guitar? I adjusted them and I don't know if they're the right height...great playing! I love the Gibson Melody Maker Dual Pickups!
atkinson2 Says:
Sep 6, 2008 - Hey Thanks... I am not sure as to the what the height of the pickups should be. My bridge is 1 centimeter up from the pickguard and the neck about 1/4 of a centimeter. I love this guitar as well and I didnt even expect it to be this nice when I bought it. Enjoy yours!
