Click 'more'. A Latin recitation, not at all focusing on the context of this text, but on accurate restaured classical pronunciation of Latin, of the centuries I B.C.E to I C.E - the times of the late Roman Republic and the early Roman Empire. I've studied Latin for just over one year, having mastered the basics of pronunciation and some grammar and some vocabulary, not much about the the latter.

Dec 2, 2008 - Italian c is pronounced in two ways - after a, o, u it's like k, but after e and i it's a fricative like ch in the word cheese. However, the way English speakers pronounce Latin on first try would be something that came through French from medieval Latin (pronounced like Spanish and Italian), and the c is done like the French do it - a o u - -k; e i - s. To put it shortly, English is a creole language it has been influenced by French(loanwords from many dialects), Norwegian, but is Germanic.

Dec 2, 2008 - "Only the pronunciation of Italian, though. Many aspects of Latin are the same, in terms of pronunciation, like in Latin."I noticed it, that´s why I asked, I was not sure if you spoke it like that because you are a native italian speaker or it was meant to be this way.this thing with u/v/w i found always interesting because I´m german/slavic mixedand the germans use w where slaves and english use v, and I often wondered about the usage of u/v in latin inscriptions and engravings before

truthspeaker2000 Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - btw in german language we know "ei", "ai", "eye" "ay" for an english spelled "eye", for instance the name Meier, exists as well written as Mair, Maier, Meyer, Mayr and as Mayer and is always spelled the same, but I agree with you the "ei" should be the newest way to write it...

MaBu888 Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - The w was used by Germans when all Germanic people had the W sound (like in the word to win). The symbol's use was and is different in different languages. The Slavs used and use it always as a v. English is the only language that retains the Proto-Indoeuropean w sound. If something were different, we would be writing like this : ai aem goving to rait sam inglish tv yv, bai yvzing a viird alphabet, wail pronavnsing laik aen Aemerikan, but that is reserved for prarllel realities LOL.

MaBu888 Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - I also know some standard German. I think Geramn is also infinitely interesting.

Dec 2, 2008 - Absolutely fascinating! Multus bene! Wow. I'm floored, really. Sounds like several of the Romance tongues rolled into one (which is sort of accurate in a backhanded sort of way.)

MaBu888 Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - I actually was almost shaking my voice because of all the attention, in an empty, silent room... hwoever, it seems to have been a success. I agree about Romance languages being rolled into this - italian R and vowels and some consonants, Hispanic ability to pronounce final consonants without resorting to unwanted schwa sounds, Portugueic ability to render vowels preceding the final m as nasalized consonants that use the 'm' as an assimilator and an 'elisionator' and synaloephe. Cũn diiuiina...

Dec 2, 2008 - Thank you. I think Latin is awesome, especially if it is read out lod and read out lod well. I don't think I'm far of as an ancient Roman, but maybe I'm too optimistic.
