http://www.ProgressiveAccountability.orgEver wonder why John McCain wants to drill for oil off of our coasts so badly? It's not to help gas prices; he knows it won't help at all in the short-term, especially not when we have a clear need to get off of oil forever. There's a bipartisan coalition growing that understands we need to get off oil. But John McCain wants to dig us even deeper in the oil well, harming the environment and making us less secure in our energy needs. So why does he want to do this, when the reality of the situation demonstrates what a terrible idea it is? I'll give you 29 guesses.Download the full quality version of this video here: https://issuealliance.box.net/shared/ufu88qg0go

Dec 5, 2008 - i cant think of a better way to solve our oil crisis...... drill drill and drill this is stupid and it wont work plus the results from the drilling wont be seen until 2030!!!! we are SOL if we elect mccain

drmmr18 Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - we drill now; so idk wut u mean by 2030, they are jus droping some restrictions on how close to shore it can be.... but I hope we drill some alaskan reserves soon, idk about timelines up there

jamstrat Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - You do know the oil needs to be refined first, this takes time as does building more refineries that will be needed if we start drilling at the rate these people want

owchywawa Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - 2030? That's 20 years from now. I heard 5 years until we have full production. Obama said it would take 10 years for his plan to begin working. McCain says why not drill, and get new resources.

owchywawa Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - "You do know the oil needs to be refined first, this takes time as does building more refineries that will be needed if we start drilling at the rate these people want"It doesn't take 20 years.

owchywawa Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Fact check:"Obama has accepted more than $213,000 from individuals who work for companies in the oil and gas industry and their spouses. Two of Obama's bundlers are top executives at oil companies and are listed on his Web site as raising between $50,000 and $100,000 for the presidential hopeful."Your argument is void unless you apply your same logic to Obama. No double standers!

jamstrat Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - the refining process is quick yes, but getting through all the red tape isn't, McCain will loosen and lose some restrictions sure, but its still gonna take time to get the deals made and the process started, do you think we have enough refineries right now to handle the load all this new drilling will create? do you know how long it takes to setup a drill and actually start drilling? do you know how long it takes to construct an oil refinery? 2 to 4 years to construct a single rig

owchywawa Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Compare this to how long it would take to find ways to use renewable energy, start building the buildings that are needed to create this energy, building new factories to create the things that use this new energy, and then transitioning everyone over to this new energy. Obama said it would take 10 years. Why not have cheaper gas while we are waiting? Nobody is saying oil is the answer, but it is part of the answer.

jamstrat Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - "Nobody is saying oil is the answer, but it is part of the answer." So whats the problem then? I thought it was oil, cool its the problem and the solution, looks like we are all done here folks. All kidding aside I agree with you to an extent, but the longer we procrastinate the deeper in trouble we are gonna be

jamstrat Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - And just so you know I support neither Obama nor McCain, Green Party all the way.

owchywawa Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Oil is not the problem. The problem is that oil runs out. More oil is good.

lurtsman Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Demand is artificially high because of speculation on the future rarity of energy sources. Building any form of future energy source, or providing a significant cut in the usage of those energy sources would dissuade the speculation enough for the prices to visibly decrease. Supply and demand does not necessitate that the demand be product consumed, only product purchased. Any definitive plan will lead to lower gas prices. The question is who should reap the rewards of the new energy system.

lurtsman Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - That's exactly the same. In reference to your first point, he's probably also received contributions from employees at walmart, sears, mcdonalds, starbucks, etc. As long as those people are employees and not lobbyists who are paid solely to influence the creation of new laws to create a disparate impact favoring the paying companies, then I don't see the big problem.

owchywawa Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Fact check:"corporate lobbyists often have a big say as to where a PAC's donations go. But a PAC can give no more than $5,000 per candidate, per election. We're not sure how a $5,000 contribution from, say, Chevron's PAC would have more influence on a candidate than, for example, the $9,500 Obama has received from Chevron employees... contributions that come in volume from oil industry executives, or are bundled by them, can be every bit as influential as PAC contributions, if not more so."

graystreetus Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - The bottom line is that new offshore oil drilling would likely not help anyone much, except politicians,(& Palin can help them do it!). Not oil companies, who didnt actively press for it until after McCain raised the subject. Theyd rather let things go along as they are, since they cant process any more oil in this country, anyway. Not consumers, who wont see prices drop much soon unless they continue reducing consumption.

graystreetus Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Palin - the "Baby" in DRILL BABY DRILL.Any newly authorized offshore oil exploration could not produce fuel for at least seven years, maybe 10, plus the fact that oil exploration ships are currently fully booked for years to come, and you arrive at the conclusion that the McCain offshore oil talk is nothing more than expediency designed to take advantage of consumer alarm over high gas prices.

brentj30 Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Bush/McCain and the Neocon-artist's Primary Agenda:Privatize the Profits:To allow for unrestrained monopoly building and profiteering by the wealthy elite under the guise of a bogus "free market" mantra.Socialize the losses:Get the tax payers to cover the bail out costs when the greedy super corporations screw up, and when the financial markets fail due to deregulation and rampant speculation.ENOUGH!Stop Corporatism! For the UNITED States of America!Vote Obama/Biden 08!
