Nov 23, 2008 - Yes but how about the priest/monsignor who said "Joe Biden is one of the most devoted Catholic's he knows". Are you kidding me...he is pro-choice. A major difference! Huge message being sent by the Church. Abortion is a very convenient choice of selfishness. This craziness makes our Church look bad, as if we need help in doing that.
khesed Says:
Nov 23, 2008 - Honestly, i prefer if the Church remains politically neutral. What matters more is the moral choice.
khesed Says:
Nov 23, 2008 - Allow me to elaborate. Why should the Church's preferred political stance matter? The Church needs to guide the SOUL to heaven instead of the vote. Let the parishioners vote according to their own values. The priests, deacons and bishops can have different views from each other, and it would be wrong to endorse one or the other. Rather, it would be a better choice to campaign for issues such as right to life.
khesed Says:
Nov 23, 2008 - (Part 2) The only reason politicians voice their own views on the issues is to get the vote. The voters themselves more than anything should lobby their local representatives and show why certain issues should be brought up. The USCCB has no right to tell us for whom to vote. I am a Catholic and a Democrat. Still pro-choice but insofar as emergency cases only. If I could vote Republican, I would.

Nov 23, 2008 - khesed, you really need to look up Obama and McCain's records on the Born Alive Act and the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act. This has to do with being American, no matter what one's beliefs are. Check the facts and the votes. One of these two politicians is truly barbaric.

Nov 23, 2008 - Make the BUSH TAX CUTS PERMANENT!!Why should the rich pay more for social programs like education, healthcare, and housing?!?! The middle class are the ones using these services!!!McCain 08!!!!
Rayosun Says:
Nov 23, 2008 - The bishops are not allowed TELL people EXPLICITLY how to vote. Instead they say "We do not tell Catholics how to vote. The responsibility to make political choices rests with each person and his or her properly formed conscience." They then proceed to "inform those consciences" that the crucial issues that should guide their consciences are the issues of "life and marriage", leaving up to them to figure out which party MEETS their criteria which parties don't. Legal, but disingenuous!
