A quick treatise on what led me to Atheism and Taoism. My atheist beliefs came prior to my grandfather's death in January of 2001, but it served as the catalyst for my announcing I was. My Taoist beliefs came in lieu of soul searching, and because well, let's face it, me and the guys back then were kinda nerdy and we thought if it was Japanese or Chinese, that automatically made it cool. My understanding came with studying the philosophy and the concept of tao. My first admission of christ, which happened under duress, happened in late September of 2006. My "actual" confession of christ came in December of the same year. Around August of 2007 is when I realized I just didn't actually believe in any of that, and that it was all bullshit. Even though my being atheist wasn't the final nail in the coffin of my near marriage, it was one of the reasons we never got back together. Honestly, I can proudly say that since then, my atheist and taoist views have only become more and more reaffirmed. I guess you could say my faith in my fellow humans, rather than in celestial zombies, angels, demons, and other supernatural bullshit, has only grown stronger. Freethought to me means true freedom, from fear, religion, and dogma. I know that there isn't a boogeyman in the sky, a hateful icon of love coming to destroy the world, I don't have to hate the world or myself, and there aren't any surprises when I go to the grave.

Nov 23, 2008 - Hey, these videos are really cool. I'm only 13 and I'm not really the kind of person who has a vast vocabulary, but what you say kind of makes sense to me. Mostly because I'm atheist, but not for the same reasons, I chose to be an atheist not because of reason, although that does help, but because I didn't like the idea that the human life is purely a waiting room for eternal bliss, or eternal suffering. I'm perfectly happy with this life, and I want it to mean something.

tsumetashi22 Says:

Nov 23, 2008 - thanks. your reasoning shows wisdom beyond most your age. i think that's the other half of what draws people to atheism, that they don't like the concept of life just being a waiting room, like you said. reason plays a big part, but a big part, too, is caring less about a next life which very well may not exist, but making something out of this one. you only have one life, and it's not worth wasting it on delusions or fantasies of eternal life and bliss.

Nov 23, 2008 - An excellent video.

Nov 23, 2008 - ++What Led me to Atheism and Taoism++Answer:Satan(the great deceiver!) and your own blindness....You don't have to believe there's a queen in the Netherlands, it won't make her less real. You don't have to believe there's a Almighty Living GOD who created the universe and WHO will judge all humans at the end, it won't make HIM less real.....JESUS IS LORD!!

tsumetashi22 Says:

Nov 23, 2008 - alright... now, the burden of proof is upon you to prove your claim, using reliable evidence... until then, if you had watched the video, you'd realize that "the opponent" of a god i don't believe in had nothing to do with my turning from christianity.it had to do primarilly with my realizing people like you are fucking crazy, and that i'm not one of you.

Nov 23, 2008 - Cool I like imaginary friends. You don't need to believe in the magic man who lives at the North Pole (it won't make him less real). That won't prevent him from ramming a candy cane up you naughty ass this Christmas either.

tsumetashi22 Says:

Nov 23, 2008 - lol, i'd have to say the burden of proof was upon you to prove your claim, that there's a homosexual, magic, fat guy in a red suit with a candy fetish.

Nov 23, 2008 - Renouncing Taoism to get the girl is a very Taoist thing to do! I'm sorry that didn't work out for you. Thanks for sharing your story!

Nov 23, 2008 - I spoke to Jesus the other day and he said that he hated you (IchtusDeogloria), I was like "what?!" and he said "yeah, he's just a bit of a tool. He (IchtusDeogloria) just doesnt get it, you know" and so I left it at that... nice guy, Jesus, just a little, a little messed up.

Fatmanc4 Says:

Nov 23, 2008 - Its pronounced "Daoism" bud.

Nov 23, 2008 - It's nice to come across a fellow atheist taoist. Thanks for sharing!

Nov 23, 2008 - "I didn't like the idea that the human life is purely a waiting room for eternal bliss, or eternal suffering. I'm perfectly happy with this life, and I want it to mean something."Nicely put! I've been saying the same thing myself, but I don't think I've ever been able to say it as simply and clearly as that.I don't think I was that wise at age 13.

AThagoras Says:

Nov 23, 2008 - Great analogy, except for one problem. There actually IS a queen in the Netherlands and we can *verify* that.

IchtusDeogloria Says:

IchtusDeogloria Says:

Nov 23, 2008 - ++Great analogy, except for one problem. There actually IS a queen in the Netherlands and we can *verify* that.++Great analogy without a problem. There actually IS a CREATOR(GOD).If you wipe the cucumberslices from your eyes you can *verify* the existence of the Living CREATOR(GOD)...... JESUS IS LORD!!

AThagoras Says:

Nov 23, 2008 - "If you wipe the cucumberslices from your eyes you can *verify* the existence of the Living CREATOR(GOD)......"I don't see any cucumber. I spent at least 10 years trying to find evidence that anything supernatural actually exists. I didn't find any.If you have a means to verify the existence of God I would be happy to see your evidence.I'm probably going to regret saying that because it's going to waste a few hours of my life, but I like to have a dialog.

IchtusDeogloria Says:

Nov 23, 2008 - ++I spent at least 10 years trying to find evidence that anything supernatural actually exists. I didn't find any.++I spent 33 years seeking truth. I've found it.....++have a means to verify the existence of GOD++ I cannot prove the bible is true but the existence of GOD is a fact:The universe is proof for creation!A watch presumes a watchmaker...A creation(universe) proves a CREATOR(GOD)....Order and complexity(universe) ALWAYS prove creation.......JESUS IS LORD!!

tsumetashi22 Says:

Nov 23, 2008 - not necessarilly. there are two ways to pronounce/spell the word.

tsumetashi22 Says:

Nov 23, 2008 - 1. you have no proof to back your claim. none at all, and i KNOW this.2. you can't verify the existence of the christian god, and this goes back to statement #1.3. jesus did not exist. he therefore can't be anything but a figment of your imagination. the story is based off of mithraism, look it up.

AThagoras Says:

Nov 23, 2008 - You've been watching those stupid Kirk Cameron videos haven't you? Sorry but that argument is bogus. How do you know it's a "creation"?"Order and complexity(universe) ALWAYS prove creation"Nonsense! Order and complexity can arise from very simple mathematical rules. They don't prove anything.Explaining the complexity of the universe by inventing an even more complex creator which we can't observe and for which there is no evidence does not make sense.

tsumetashi22 Says:

Nov 23, 2008 - "Are you playing with your mom's computer again?"i'm willing to ask the same of the dumb ass, young earth creationist the same question. so, young man, do you HAVE permission to use mommy's computer, or does she know you're online right now?

ulktz Says:

Nov 23, 2008 - this is a really interesting video, thanks for making it.
