Dec 5, 2008 - Interesting to see, in about a year from now, this comment will be over-expanded, as I am probably not allowed to comment on this situation. In a year though, I'll be back. Stay strong in the struggle though.

Dec 5, 2008 - it is a cute article. it's got good intentions though penis and vagina re JUST beginning to be funny at the 6th grade so maybe would have been better to use a 7th or 8th. Either way I doubt the administration would have acted any differently. Teaching a CC is way more liberal though and you can also connect with your students!! good luck man

Dec 5, 2008 - Wow man that sucks, but thats the way extreme religious people are i guess :/. But its great you have a new job at a college. Its not such a bad thing, you'll be working with mature young adults. But anyway, glad to see your bad up, you make some really great reviews. Later----

eberle5719 Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - problem 1: By accepting the job, you choose to be a role model to 10-12 year olds. These topics are not exactly what their parents want them discussing @ lunch (tight this - loose that), and they will find it on YouTube. You put it in the public domain. The boys were told they were they represent the school on and off campus... as were you. You are from this system. You were not naive.

eberle5719 Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - problem 2: you recorded some of your streams from school. Obviously, inappropriate. That should have been a termination long before the publication of the article. Problem 3: You couldn't keep your intranet site up to date (a job expectation), but you were keeping your You Tube site prolific.

eberle5719 Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - problem 4: you are obviously narcisstic; great quality for hollywood, new york -- not exactly what parents are looking for in a teacher for their sons

eberle5719 Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - problem 5: You quite possibly have a future as a write. Not appropriate; however, on a timeline, given your choice of topics, while COMMITTED to promoting the values of St. Ignatius. See your hypocrisy? That is what is so sad. You don't see it. You couldn't walk away and save yourself. Your ego is too big, you are going to self destruct rather than accept that your You Tube and writing career and the school values are not in sync.

eberle5719a Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - problem 6: It is so sad to watch you implode. The waste of talent... The power of immaturity over common sense... The hubris over a resume... You'll post a manic rant, Jerry Seinfeld sytle, as if you were original, pointing out the obvious-- we all like music -- as a sacrafice fly for your career.

eberle5719a Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - problem 7: NO, we are not forming a union... perhaps an intervention. Good luck to you. We do wish you well. Take care.

Dec 5, 2008 - man r u kidding u dont know how happy some people are because u left. u were a disgrace to that school and by the way go take ur little super smash brothers tournamnets to ur community college and ur pathetic is this in ur moms basemen

LemonsNeedHelp Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - A disgrace to the school? I'm sorry you feel that way. Apparently my superiors didn't think so as my evaluations were solid and I've had several students tell me that they made me love and understand English more than they ever had before. I don't know what holding Super Smash Bros. Tournaments as an after-school activity has to do with anything. It was approved by the school and students, parents, and teachers found it to be a great way for non-sports kids to be involved.

dmsilverm Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - You are losing perspective. Your superiors fired you! Solid evalutions are meaningless now. Parents would never allow their children back in the classroom with you (this concensus is overwhelming) and the children are completely "creeped" out by you. Jeckyll and Hyde comes to mind.

LemonsNeedHelp Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Jeckyll and Hyde? Now who's losing perspective? I wrote an article pertaining to sex for a newspaper over the summer. It in no way affected by ability to teach students, including yours, Ms. Silverman.Movie directors write and direct horror films and then go home and hug their kids. What one creates doesn't necessarily reflect their attitude in other areas of life.

LemonsNeedHelp Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - As far as "the children being 'creeped' out," that's a shame. They're too young to mistrust the influence their parents hold over them, and are apt to believe whatever they're told. As far as your comment about parents go, I've spoken with many a parent that feel quite differently, and support my move. While my action was dumb, it didn't validate my termination.

LemonsNeedHelp Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Reply 1: I didn't put it on YouTube until AFTER I was fired. Publicly, it was available in a daily free newspaper for 18-30 year olds. No 10-12 year old picks up things like B or The City Paper to read. Additionally, if my article were truly considered vulgar/offensive, it wouldn't have been published. I was told so.

LemonsNeedHelp Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Reply 2: Wrong. All videos here on my channel were done from my home or a friend's.Reply 3: I didn't start putting videos up until Spring 2008, far after the school year had begun. I don't think the word "prolific" applies at all. Additionally, maintaining the website wasn't a requirement during the 07-08 school year, and is a rather weak point.

LemonsNeedHelp Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Reply 4: "obviously narcissistic?" Far from it. I'm confident, sure, but I don't think I'm anyone particularly special.

LemonsNeedHelp Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Reply 5: Check the Ignatian values again. As it's based in Cura Personalis, there are equally as many ways in which my article exemplifies these values. By your standards, you would have to claim that when "Sexyback" is played at 6th grade dances, it's also contrary to Ignatian values, but I don't see parents clamoring about it. Ego? Any creativity involves ego. Even the things you wrote to me here display ego. Thinking people will care about what you say involves ego. Not egotistical however.

LemonsNeedHelp Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Reply 6: Implode? I'm 24, healthy, and reasonably smart. I'll be fine. Common sense? Ok, take a good teacher who connects well with students and makes them enjoy learning and, in turn, learn. Then, he slips up by trying to be creative. Although it hasn't impacted his work whatsoever, a simple reprimand won't do. Let's ignore his skill and blow the situation out of proportion. Let's fire him. When he specifically asks why? Ignore him. When he asks for a meeting to discuss it? Ignore him.

LemonsNeedHelp Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Reply 6 Cont'd: Because that's what happened. I was shut out from the meeting, which by the way, was held by 4 people, only one of whom even knew me. I was told I could contact the president with any questions, but again, was ignored.I thought about it. I loved teaching. I loved the kids. But if I went back, but had to walk on eggshells in terms of what I write, what I sing, where I act, etc, I don't know if I could work under a system of values that seems as hypocritical as it is vague.

LemonsNeedHelp Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Reply 7: An intervention for what? If you feel the school was justified in their firing of me, on what are you intervening? And truly, thank you, I appreciate your words of encouragement, despite the fact that they come after words of criticism.
