Dec 5, 2008 - Okay so assuming that is true, let's take two of your statements. "She's no breath of fresh air" and "I was for McCain before he made this terrible choice."What about McCain was a "breath of fresh air" before he brought in Palin and in your opinion, what candidate would have been a breath of fresh air for VP?

zubernick Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - I wasn't looking for a breath of fresh air with McCain or his VP choice - I trusted him to be the McCain I thought I had a handle on. I hoped he would pick someone capable of honoring his vision and act consistently if he didn't finish the term. Palin's no breath of fresh air because she's completely out of her depth and I have no reason to believe she could lead this country, if for no other reason than I don't think she has the ability to get up to speed that fast. Deer in the headlamps.

shonester Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - I vote based on leadership, not politics. I found Clinton and McCain to be fine candidates. I have never had anything bad to say about McCain before, but preferred Hillary's leadership. I have no ties to Democrats or Republicans and don't feel obligated to follow a single party. McCain is superior to Obama in ability to lead and I like Palin - she has a lot of moxie and will stand up to the puppetmasters with McCain.

wreddon Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - If McCain had picked a moderate he would lose. Also Palin never said she was qualified on foreign policy because of Alaska's proximity to Russia. She really doesn't have a whole lot of foreign military knowledge, but then neither does Obama (or Biden for that matter considering his bullshit idea about dividing Iraq) who said the surge would increase violence.Palin has had to negotiate pipelines with Canada and fishing rights between Japan and Russia, go to Alaska . gov instead of blogs.

zubernick Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - OK, we disagree on whether he would have won with a moderate.I was a 7 year resident of Alaska until two years ago and have watched politics from bizarre local boards to wacky state level stuff. I know well what AK governors do - which is part of my objection to Palin. On foreign policy - it was McCain who cited proximity to Siberia as a basis for understanding. Re BO's experience, didn't he vote on Iraq - probably had to do some homework on that, discuss it with other concerned legislators.

shonester Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - He didn't vote on Iraq. He wasn't in the Senate until after the Iraq war authorization. Once he was in the Senate he voted strictly along with how the majority of other Democrats voted on the Iraq War.

zubernick Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - "Obama's Senate voting record on Iraq is nearly identical to Clinton's. Over the two years Obama has been in the Senate, the only Iraq-related vote on which they differed was the confirmation earlier this year of General George Casey to be Chief of Staff of the Army, which Obama voted for and Clinton voted against." From ABC News - took one second. If I vote Obama it will be a vote against McCain but give some Obama credit for working in the milieu of world affairs. Palin pales in comparison.

shonester Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - They both have no foreign policy experience. If you're trying to imply that Obama is slightly better than Palin on foreign policy...that's not saying much. He was the number one pick to lead the country by Democrats! She was #2 by Republicans. And it is also pretty much opening the door to verify that by that standard, McCain far exceeds Obama in that area.

shonester Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - And if you're keen on change... Obama has never proven he can bring the change he speaks of. I can't find an example where he brought such landmark change to indicate he'll do anything.Palin was only governor for a little less than 2 years and in that time she managed to bring changes. Obama was in Illinois for years and did nothing. Palin has proven she can reform an administration.

wreddon Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - That was my point, McCain's staff has done a horrible job of justifying the pick. But actually I think we need a VERY unconventional politician if we want to turn Washington around, not just more of the same assholes who have been fucking us for 8 years. And Biden and Obama are the same bastards doing the same shit, not much different than McCain. However she has given a great accounting of herself and her ability to handle pressure, she changed the media headlines in a single night.

wreddon Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - "give Obama credit for working in the milieu of world affairs. Palin pales in comparison."Palin isn't running for president, when are you going to wake up to that fact. Obama is on the TOP of the ticket and is vastly unqualified, the American people have rejected Biden as president twice already by hilariously low voter turnout. I don't worry much about McCain's health, but if he were to croak there are plenty of veteran Republicans to take the VP slot and handle Palin's foreign policy.

zubernick Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Given McCain's age and medical hx I have to consider his VP a possible president - my rejection of Palin all along. To sell that as OK because she would have lots of backup VPs with experience to help her lead is asinine. It's what makes Obama/Biden an alternative to a dead McCain, and who knows who Palin picks as her VP or whether she would heed any advice - mavericks by definition take a dim view of people telling them what to do. Why not show some guts and pick the right VP the first time?

wreddon Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - IF thats your justification thats a valid complaint, though many disagree with you.Biden has had two aneurysms and heart trouble, and has been a lifelong asthmatic. I never hear the wisdom of Obama picking him to be a heartbeat away.Palin was the right VP pick, she has totally changed the dynamic of the race. A moderate or dem would mean defeat, she gives the GOP a chance to win, if you don't see the difference between McCain and Obama then you'd vote Obama from the beginning anyway.

shonester Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Palin shakes it up a bit. I trust her the most of the four and she seems to actually want to do the job - and not just fill her ego.

Dec 5, 2008 - the rushie neocons are sooo much like killers charlie manson and jefferie dahmer that i confuse the three .. they are not creative and cannot do things by themselves .. they need speech writers ... and puppet handlers ... take evil palin .. she reads the same speech day after day .. because her puppet handlers hasn't given her a new one .. and the all white kkk neocons love it .. diabolical .. the neocons spend $400M+ for show biz talk shows to dupe the dopes .. but they had to knock off russert

procommenter Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - McCain? Obama? It's of no consequence. In no important way does it make a hair's-breadth worth of difference which one-worlder "wins" the office of Chief Magistrate.

shonester Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - I agree. But I am sick of this illusion that some people have that Obama is supreme.McCain is scrutinized. It concerns me a "President Obama" will get away with everything and never be held accountable.

procommenter Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - McCain is a Panamanian national and as such is ineligible to hold our nation's highest office. Obama, by the same token, has yet to produce a viable birth certificate from the state of Hawaii. It's thought that he was born in Canada. Our Constitution is dead.

shonester Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Congressional Act of 1790: "And the children of citizens of the United States, that may be born beyond sea, or out of the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural born citizens."He was born in Panama when his father was stationed for the US Navy - working for America. I don't agree with your point here. Feel free to counteract.

procommenter Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - The Constitution states: "No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President..." This was overturned in 1790 & reinstated in the early 1800's. No other office-seeker, except for the presidency, must be natural born. Chester A. Arthur was assailed because it was commonly believed that he was born in Canada, even though he possessed a U.S. birth certificate.

procommenter Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - The Framers weren't interested in the parentage of prospective presidents. McCain was born in Panama therefor he doesn't qualify.

shonester Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - But the US held sovereignty over the Panama Canal Zone at the time of his birth in '36. He was born on a U.S. military base and both his parents were U.S. citizens.

procommenter Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - The Canal Zone was under a 99-yr.-lease. It was not a U.S. territory. McCain was born with dual citizenship. He was a citizen by blood of the U.S. and a Panamanian citizen by birth. What if McCain's parents were civilians and had made an emergency landing on a U.S. military base to give birth to a child? Would McCain still be eligible to serve as Chief Magistrate of the U.S.? Why did the framers specifically & exclusively apply "natural born" as a condition to the presidency and no other office?
