Looks like Sarah Palin wasn't exactly accurate when she said that she "sold the plane on eBay". Actually, she sold it to a broker. She didn't even make money off of it - it cost them 600,000 dollars. The plane was originally purchased by her predecessor for 2.7 million Dollars, but she only sold it for 2.1 million dollars - after it failed to sell on eBay. Now, I guess if she had bothered to say that she "Auctioned It on eBay", or that she "Put it up to be auctioned" or "Bid on eBay", she'd actually be telling the truth. If she lies about selliing airplanes, what else will she lie about?Well, she was telling the truth about never supporting the Bridge to Nowhere...oh, wait, she originally supported that, but eventually opposed it when she saw the cost. Well, at least she kept the money from the deal.Okay, but she was totally honest when she said that she feels the pain of mothers with disabled children, and she must have been truthful when she said "I support disabled children". Oh, hold on... she cut the Special Needs Budget in Alaska by 62%...Well, surely she would stand up to and publically detest sexism. Oh, wait. She said earlier in the summer that people who speak out against sexism are whiners - namely Hillary Clinton.Wow...and she really thinks she can court the Democratic Woman's Vote? Fat Chance.

Dec 5, 2008 - You are LYING in your text. Sarah Palin said she PUT the jet on eBay. Exact quote, "That luxury jet was over the top. I put it on eBay." She didn't claim it SOLD there! The key point is she did sell it. I don't see anywhere she claimed she made a profit. Wouldn't that be just as unlikely with a used jet as with a used car? This is just more scheming & smearing by the liberal media who've been drinking Obama's Kool-Aid for years now! Obviously McCain misspoke but it was his misunderstanding.

Dec 5, 2008 - Yes literally speaking she said she put it on EBAY, but she also said, she saved the taxpayers money, inferring she made the state a profit, Mc'Cain specifically stated she made a profit, when in fact she sold it at a loss of $600K. The claim is disingenuous at best.

jedijones Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - It's not disingenuous. Of course you save the taxpayers money when you liquidate an asset. That's 2 million less you have to tax them to pay the bills that year. Do you not want your leaders to cut waste like this jet? Like I said, McCain obviously misunderstood the situation and misspoke. Obama said there are 57 states in some of his remarks. These people are talking every single day, sometimes they're tired, they make mistakes! The point is Sarah's prepared remarks had the facts exactly right.

Dec 5, 2008 - I suppose she also "misspoke" when she said that she supported special needs children in spite of cutting the budget for said children back in her home state by 30%.How about when she said that she never supported the Bridge to Nowhere? She said that she opposed it from the beginning. I suppose she misspoke then too? There's a pretty sizable difference between misspeaking or having a brain fart, and just flat-out lying to make herself look good.

Dec 5, 2008 - Only in the Bush/McCain world of economics is losing $600,000 of taxpayer money considered a good thing.

jedijones Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Hey, dummy, she didn't buy the jet. Do you "lose money" when you sell your old car for less than you paid for it? It's called depreciation. "Depreciation represents a cost of ownership and the consumption of an assets useful life." The previous governor got use out of it. Whether it was worth $600K or not is up to the taxpayer to decide. By not letting the jet depreciate further and selling it Palin saved the state further losses on the depreciation of that asset.

jedijones Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - She didn't cut the budget for special needs children. That is one of the many liberal lies that has been debunked by sites like FactCheck and Newsweek. She in FACT tripled the education budget for special needs children. Her sister already had an autistic kid. Palin has been well aware of these needs for a while and drastically increased funding for them as governor.

JordanDesignStudio Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - The truth is that Palin couldn't find a buyer last year when she tried to peddle to plane on eBay - and lost the state money when she did sell it.Palin's predecessor, Frank Murkowski, originally bought the 20-year-old Westwing II for the state of Alaska for $2.7 million. She listed it on eBay for $2.5 million. When no offers came in, Palin hired a jet broker - Turbo North Aviation in Anchorage - which sold the jet for $2.1 million to an Alaska businessman.

mike50333 Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - lolI was pretty disappointed when I found out about that (not that she did it, I'm glad as anything that she did it, but because we couldn't use it as a form of attack against her). Though it's not that big a loss. We still have plenty of factual red meat against Palin. Besides, our lies aren't any better than the pathetic and low-blow lies that have been put out against Obama.

mike50333 Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Wow. It took you an entire week just to come up with that. lol But seriously, the reason we can use this in assault against her is because both she and John McCain have repeatedly exclaimed that she sold it for a PROFIT. That's when you make more money on it than you spend - or in this case, when you sell it for more than it's actual worth. In that instance, she did in fact lose money, whether the root cause was depreciation or not.

jedijones Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - Why don't you stick to the issues or the fundamental character of the candidates rather than playing these gotcha games? Do you think the people of (the great state of) Alaska would've preferred that Palin kept the jet and cancelled those tax rebates to balance the budget instead? Again, I did keyword searches on Palin's speeches on the word "profit" and have not found where she said she made a profit on the sale of the jet. When do you believe she said this? Yes, I'm aware that McCain misspoke.

mike50333 Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - "Why don't you stick to the issues or the fundamental character of the candidates rather than playing these gotcha games?"Odd. If i recall correctly, the Republicans have played that exact same game in the form of the sex card for the past 2-3 weeks. The problem is that a majority of our assaults towards Palin are based on facts, not distortions.

mike50333 Says:

Dec 5, 2008 - "Do you think the people of (the great state of) Alaska would've preferred that Palin kept the jet and cancelled those tax rebates to balance the budget instead?"You're misssing the point completely. I'm not upset that she lost money over the plane - every governor loses money somewhere. The thing I'm upset about is that she and McCain have lied about making a PROFIT over said plane.
