Here is our nicely progressing food garden. The U shaped veg patch is raised beds full of PURE 100% composted horse, cow, chicken manure. We were sick of trying to get things to grow in our hydrophobic adelaide soil so we made raised beds. In there at the moment are some cabbages which are drowning out the carrots, there was sposed to be spinach in that gap but they did grow so we pulled them out, next to that there are leeks being drowned out by the grass from the manure, then silverbeet which we have had a very good yield this year, then our monstrous 2M high peas. We have never seen peas grow this tall, we had to extend the tube frame becuase they were so tall and now they are just falling over the top of the tube. They also have very thick stems and lots of flowers. There are also some loose leaf lettuce in there as well. All of these plants are only a month or so old...the magic of manure eh?Above the veg there are our experiment espalier fruit trees. We put some posts in and wire them up tight, then 3 fruit trees trimmed and tied to the wires. Each tree has one whole bag of cow manure and one whole bag of potting mix in each hole...we were digging for ages! Opposite the fruit trees we are going to put 2 or 3 dwarf citrus which should complete the fruit "corridor". At the end where that wooden rectangle is we are putting strawberries, thornless blackberries and maybe a rasberry which will grow on a trellice. The rain gauge is not very visible but there is 7mm of rain in there from today which is good for an Adelaide august day.Thats all for now, another vid in a few weeks when its all filled up with fruit and veg!
